Digital Audio Broadcasting
Your DAB questions answered
What is DAB?
Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) is a platform that in the future will replace FM and AM radio, in fact the number of radio listeners using DAB is already on the increase across the UK.
How does DAB work?
DAB multiplexing allows the transmitters to carry a larger number of radio stations simultaneously. This has been running in other parts of the country and has resulted in an increase in new radio station formats with enhanced opportunities for volunteer and community stations.
What are the benefits to the listener?
With the the addition of DAB+, aside from the additional radio stations that will be available, we can also improve the quality of the audio which will increase the possibility of your listener staying with your radio station.
Are there any other benefits?
There are also environmental gains as when one low power DAB multiplex broadcasts many radio stations it reduces the footprint as less equipment and power are needed.
